The Forum while retaining a neutral position on the carbon markets, is working to ensure that the rights, interests and self-determination of both Indigenous Peoples and local communities are upheld and protected. It aims at strengthening and coordinating Indigenous Peoples and local communities’ engagement with the market, positioning communities as equal partners (not beneficiaries) and active participants in climate solutions. At COP30 the forum is planning to launch its living strategy, during a consultative workshop, to gather as much feedback and inputs as possible to ensure the strategy document is inclusive of diverse views of different market actors. This living strategy is focusing on three priority areas (1) removing barriers to market entry, (2) building capacity and supporting community self-strengthening, and (3) defining and promoting best practices in benefit-sharing. This strategy aims to ensure climate finance and carbon markets deliver equitable, high-integrity outcomes for Indigenous Peoples and local communities.
