Science for an Interconnected Amazon: Findings from the Amazon Assessment Report 2025
The Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA) will officially launch its Second Amazon Assessment Report (AR2025) at COP30 in Belém. The new report focuses on Amazon connectivity, providing science-based insights into the ecological, social, cultural, political, and economic interconnections that sustain the region. Developed by a renowned group of scientists, including Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities from across the Amazon and global partners, the AR2025 outlines the region’s current challenges and solution pathways across eight chapters that explore the different dimensions of Amazonian connectivity. The high-level event will bring together high-level speakers, including SPA leadership, AR2025 authors, Indigenous and local leaders, policy makers, and multilateral development partners to present policy relevant recommendations from the report, offering a vision grounded in research, Indigenous and local knowledge, and solutions to support an interconnected Amazon.
