Valuing Nature, Empowering Action: Interactive Training with the CSF Calculator Hub

At COP16, the Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF) launched the Calculators Hub, comprising three innovative online calculators that make complex socio-environmental and economic analyses accessible, thereby turning months of technical work into instant insights. These free tools focus on the cost of mining impacts in nature, the costs of deforestation, and the costs of management of Indigenous land. All of these tools are meant to support conservation planning, policy-making, fundraising, and accountability. For example, the Mining Impacts Calculator, now expanded across Amazonian countries, has already helped Brazil’s Federal Prosecutors’ Office claim over USD 1.5 million in reparations for gold mining damages. Developed with partners such as Rede Xingu+, the Indigenous Land Management Costs Calculator estimates resources needed for Territorial and Environmental Management Plans, while the Deforestation Impacts Calculator monetizes the social and environmental costs of forest loss. To address persistent capacity gaps, CSF proposes a participatory workshop at COP30. Through live demonstrations and group exercises with real Amazonian case studies, the session will build skills to apply valuation data in strategies, funding, and policy, fostering inclusive, cross-sectoral, and Indigenous-informed climate action.
